New Concept Boutique Store for David Jones in Brisbane

David Jones is set to open another concept boutique three level store, similar to their recent Barangaroo site in Sydney. Like the Barangaroo offering , the Fortitude Valley store in James Street will have a beauty & accessories offering dominating the first floor, with womenswear taking up a large share of the second, and part of the third floor. Menswear and shoes will be present on the third floor, alongside accessories and shoes.

David Jones is set to become one of the latest additions to Brisbane’s James Street precinct in Fortitude Valley, lodging a planning application to convert a showroom into a three-level shop with Brisbane City Council late last month.

Located at 6 James Street, Fortitude Valley, the four-level building totals 1,437 square metres of retail space, with plans to open in early 2017.

David Jones has commissioned a $1.7 million redevelopment on the property, which will transform the sizable internal showroom into something that more closely resembles the high-end department store’s offering.

According to the submitted planning documentation, the new store will include an entry foyer manned by a concierge, a personal shopper and beauty areas, features that are in line with the retailer’s previously espoused boutique strategy, which kicked off at the opening of a Barangaroo store in Sydney late last year.

Similarly to the Barangaroo store, a beauty and accessories offering will dominate the first floor, with womenswear taking the lion’s share of the second and parts of the third floor. Menswear and shoes are present on the third floor, alongside accessories and shoes.

David Jones originally announced their intention to open a store on James Street in October last year, when CEO John Dixon said that the offer will be curated specifically to local shoppers.

“James Street is one of Brisbane’s most vibrant shopping and lifestyle precincts making it an ideal location for our new boutique format. This dynamic format enables us to deliver an innovative store experience in a smaller footprint, with a customised fashion and beauty offering and specialised services,” Dixon said. “We are excited to be further growing our footprint in Queensland. The James Street store follows the opening of our recent flagship at Pacific Fair and the announcement of our first Sunshine Coast store, demonstrating our confidence in the state,” he said.
