Throughout the years I have heard stories of people with no time to read through thousands of applications and lengthy CVs. Here are some great tips to create a CV that is short, to the point, and easy to read.
When applying for a job through our company, please include a Cover Letter. It provides insight into who you are and why you believe you are suited to the role you are applying for.
Unfortunately, not many people have time to read a Cover Letter though and I know many companies don’t have time when sifting through hundreds of applications.
Follow these easy steps for a great CV:
- Underneath your name and personal details, create a short paragraph which outlines who you are, what you are good at, and what you aspire to be.
- Qualifications – Degrees and Courses completed
- Create a table with three columns and title this ‘Career Summary’. Put a heading in each column, ‘Company’, ‘Title’, and ‘Dates’. Underneath each heading put from most recent to oldest role, title and date with each business.
- Major Career Achievements – under this title put 5 bullet points of what have been for you some real standout highlights of your career to date.
- Professional Experience – This is where you can expand on each role in further detail. Under title, company and dates you can explain your most recent to oldest role in further detail. Keep this short again and underneath each role put an Achievements heading with three bullet points to highlight what you did in each role. 15 years is probably the maximum I would work back on.
- Interests – social and sport. Give us some insight into who you are and what you like to do outside work.
- Referees – can be provided upon request
I hope this helps and as already highlighted, keep it to the point and not longer than 4 pages long. Happy CV writing!
