With Recruit Career Consult rapidly approaching its 4th birthday, founder Amelia Hennessy has reflected on her success and what got her to where she is today. With a passion for the Retail Consulting industry, Amelia wanted to be a driving force behind change in the industry.
Amelia was inspired to open Recruit Career Consult after working in the Retail recruitment industry across Australia and Singapore for more than a decade. Prior to opening Recruit Career Consult, Amelia found herself at a crossroads with her career. The recruitment business she was working for previously didn’t align with her core values and she wanted to see a change in the industry. With the full support of her husband, Amelia took the leap and opened her own career consulting business.
Amelia credits her success to having developed long-standing relationships with key contacts in the retail space. Having these relationships and contacts allowed her to have a foot in the door when starting the business.
It is with great pride to report that since its humble beginnings, Recruit Career Consult has successfully connected over 42 Retailers to over 340 employees. “There was incredible trust shown by these businesses to allow me to start and recruit for them”. Having these relationships allowed Amelia to grow her business, requiring additional support staff after only 8 short months.
Whilst opening her own thriving business hasn’t always been easy, Amelia likes to see every obstacle as an opportunity “I believe that everything in life is a learning experience, and I don’t think I would have done things differently. As a business owner, it is so important to learn and to constantly push yourself out of your comfort zone.”
Over the past 4 years, Amelia has had to grow and adapt her business to suit an ever-changing market. With all of the changes in the industry, Amelia hasn’t strayed from the core values which has made Recruit Career Consult what it is today, “Recruitment is very different now to what it was a decade ago, but we have stayed true to ourselves and what we believe in, which is quality connections, true partnerships, and being that true value add to both our clients and candidates.”
Opening a new business is about growing and changing, often with steep learning curves. As all smart business owners will tell you, reflection on your past is the key to growing and succeeding. With this in mind Amelia has reflected, “I myself have also looked at how I do business. I’ve invested in my development over the last 12 months, and am part of an all women advisory board, which has really helped stretch my acumen and hold me accountable.”
We asked Amelia if she had one message for women in business and her message was “If you have a dream, and you know you are good at what you do, take the leap of faith and fly! Stay true to your beliefs, and listen to your customers. The sky is the limit and as women, we can be anything we want to be!”
