Our Client:

Our Client is helping Australians fall in love with Japanese & Korean beauty trends. Sourcing the most unique & sought after products, this business allows customers of all ages, sexes and walks of life to experience these products in one location.

The Role:

Reporting to the COO, you will lead a team of Buyers & Planners, build supplier partnerships, own category, & SKU productivity. Partner with stores, marketing, & e-commerce, to deliver a seamless and profitable customer experience. This is a critical leadership role as the business scales nationally and prepare for IPO within five years.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define & execute the Business' buying strategy across key categories & brands.
  • Own end-to-end product lifecycle: range planning, selection, pricing, promotions, & exits.
  • Monitor beauty & consumer trends globally to inform local relevance & innovation.
  • Lead annual merchandise & procurement planning cycle, aligned with company goals.
  • Define category-level budgets & buying targets, aligned with financial goals.
  • Supervise & support three regional Category Managers across major product zones.
  • Set purchasing targets & assortment goals by region, based on brand, product, & local market insights.
  • Lead & develop a team of buyers, assistants, & merchandise planners.
  • Work closely with retail ops, e-commerce, marketing, & finance to align buying with trade plans.
  • Identify whitespace & innovation opportunities within the category.
  • Lead the development & launch of private label products where strategic fit exists.
Key Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in buying, category management, and / or merchandise planning.
  • To navigate cross-cultural team & market interactions, it is preferred, but not essential, that the successful candidate possess a deep understanding of both Australian & Asian business environments - whether through personal background, work experience, or leadership exposure.
  • Bilingual in an Asian language is preferred, but not essential, in Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese or Korean.
  • Proven track record in Beauty, FMCG, or Fashion Retail.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link product decisions to P&L impact.
  • Deep supplier negotiation skills & understanding of trading terms.
  • Proficient in retail planning tools & systems; advanced Excel required.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to build, coach, & inspire a high-performing team.
  • Strong trend-sensing & market analysis capabilities.
